Thank you for visiting the DRD Ranch website. We welcome you to
this site and to our ranch. We are located in Cottonwood, California.
Dallas and Donna Robertson started the DRD Ranch almost forty-one years ago. Since its inception, we have successfully raised, trained and shown Morgan Horses, Quarter Horses, Australian Shepherds, and Nubian Dairy Goats.
Even as children, Dallas and I have always had a love for horses and dogs. Although we didn't know each other when we were young, we both loved camping and riding in the mountains, gymkhanas, and being around our dogs. My first horse was a Morgan mare named Boots. I rode her anywhere and everywhere, even just laid on her back to look at the clouds. Dallas and his family rode Quarter Horses at cuttings' and raised Australian Shepherds, some of which came from actor, Victor McLaughlin.
At DRD Ranch, we are dedicated to promoting Morgans that have outstanding dispositions, intelligence, size and versatility for show and family pleasure. We showed our Morgan stallion, Pemberton's Oradon, and Palomino mare, I'm Margo Nugget, to many wins in Western and English Pleasure, and Saddle Seat. They were tremendous mountain horses too. Currently we have three Morgans. Pollyanna's Tammy was purchased as a four year old. Her beauty and ease of care is passed down to the two foals she produced for us. The first is a 2003 Palomino gelding, DRD Fine Gold. Sunny is so very easy going and is ridden for pleasure and trail. His full sister, DRD Tuscany Rose, is a 2005 Buckskin mare. She is much more spirited than her brother. She hasn't been used often enough, but is a so beautiful to look at. They are by Farceur's Fools Gold.
Our Quarter Horses are bred as working cow horses. Their breeding, size, dispositions, and movements show it. They are now used for pleasure and Janey is ridden by our granddaughter in western classes and is now looking forward to competing in cow horses classes with her.
The Nubian goat herd began with a need for goat milk. Not for humans, but by an orphaned foal. We found “a milk goat” of non-descript breeding. After the foal was weaned, we set out to find better does. Being long-time Nubian admirers, we searched many local ranches before we came upon a top-notch ranch, Bull Pines Ranch and owner, Beverly Barnes. With many years experience raising quality animals, we knew that these were top animals. Within a week, we came home with 5 four month-old doelings. That same year, our children showed them at the Fresno District Fair in the 4-H division and came home with a Junior Champion and many ribbons. The kids got out of goats, but their mom didn't. Here it is some thirty-five years later and still showing, milking and producing beautiful and winning Nubians.
We are not raising new litters of Austrailian Shepherds at this time, but still have the same lines that we started with some forty-one years ago. They certainly are top dogs!
